Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 15 March 1988. Canaday talks of his early life in St. Louis Missouri, of his mother's death, and of being raised by his father. He discusses his courtship and marriage to a white, his children, his religious experiences, and his conversion to the Mormon Church. He comments on the experiences of other black Mormons.
